I went down to Womad 2004 yeterday, with a group of friends. The music was amazing! I had to go for a picnic earlier and was bit late for the event, and by the time I got there, about an hr into the program – the place was jam packed. If you have been to Fort Canning, you know the crowds we are talking abt by that. The atmosphere was great – the crowd was very participative – which is not something I see often in Singapore.
We danced our hearts out and had real fun. It was one of those days where I couldnt care less who was around me – it was just me, the music and the dance – almost in a trance. And it was so packed and so hot – was almost like we were in a sauna.
What I enjoyed the most was the performance by the Afro-European women’s band ” Zap Mamma”. She was wonderful, out-of-the-world amazing. After I move to Europe, I hope I get more chances to see her in concert..
I have been watching Womad for every year, for the last few years. And once again, Womad lived up to its high standards!
